Last June, 5 Burro Cafe opened in the abandoned Pit Stop space at 127 Columbia Street, between Kane and Degraw. We gave it a solid thumbs up as a great family restaurant–with a safe, fun play area for the kids (RIP petanque courts), refreshing cocktails and large portions of Tex Mex grub. Although the garden and patio area keeps the neighborhood coming back in the warm weather, the much smaller space for eat-in didn’t catch as many flies in the cold. So the management did what it needed to do–closed during the week and made sure to send out lots of deliveries when it was open Friday through Sunday. But if, like me, you’ve been missing those cold cervezas and guac–and want to bring the kids in for some quasadillas–5 Burro is now open 6 days a week (closed Mondays). So go on in and say hi to the friendly and always helpful staff, and don’t forget that frozen watermelon margarita–a perfect end to a day at Pier 6.
