Dimattina Playground Incident: Please Beware

By , 11 September, 2012, 4 Comments

We here at BoCoCaLand try not to be scaremongers. But something happened yesterday afternoon which we felt needed to be discussed publicly. A few moms and I took our kids to Dimattina playground after school, which is on Hicks St. between Woodhull St. and Rapelye St. About 20 minutes after we got there, my four year old son was on the swings near the gate, when a woman came in, walked straight up to him and started whispering in his ear. Thankfully, his older cousin was right there and went over to see what was happening. The woman, who had shoulder length frizzy hair and was wearing wrinkled, dirty clothing, left immediately when confronted. About 15 minutes later, she came back and stood outside the gate looking in. When spotted, she again ran off. The police were called and two officers were sent to check out the area, but nobody has seen her since.
Obviously, I don’t know what this woman was specifically up to, but if she’s not a mom in the playground, she shouldn’t be there talking to children. Please pass this around and if anyone has any additional info, please let us know or call the 76th precinct directly.

Sorry, I should have mentioned in the post that when I asked my four year old what the woman said, he told me he couldn’t understand her.

Thanks so much for posting.I think I spoke with you about this right after it happened. I live in the area and we’re always there.

Feels like there’s been a sudden surge in crime around here lately. It may feel like Mayberry at times but we can’t forget we live in NYC.
