The B63: Now in Real-Time

After cutting some of the most beloved bus routes in the neighborhood, the MTA is trying to make things up to us with its new BusTime project. Basically a GPS signal which you can tap into with your mobile phone or computer, you can now track the progress of the B63 bus (running mainly along Fifth Avenue and Atlantic Avenue between Fort Hamilton and Cobble Hill) in real-time. Right now, it is installed on 30 buses–and all you have to do to use it is text a code that should be prominently displayed at your bus stop. A return text should be received immediately with the real-time locations of the next several buses. Not a bad trick in this kind of weather–and a huge help if you’re thinking of a coffee or newspaper run. The service allows you to use any text-message-capable mobile phone; a desktop or laptop computer; as well as Android, iPhone, BlackBerry or other web-connected smartphones.
