The New PS 29 Schoolyard: Plan and Photos

By , 23 August, 2010, 1 Comment

Many of us are watching the wasteland that used to be the PS 29 schoolyard with curiosity — even concern. We’ve heard that the new space will be ready by November, but what, exactly, will it look like? We obtained this plan from Out2Play.org (we also have it in the original, larger PDF version), as well as some pictures of design elements as implemented in other playgrounds. The kickball/track/soccer field gets a big thumbs up (although the left field fence seems a little close), and the garden looks to be a bit larger than the improvised setup that existed for the past few years. We are assuming — hoping — that the white space in the southeast corner will contain a jungle gym or some sort of structure for younger kids to play on.

Soccer pitch bounded by track. The PS 29 track will be 1/12 mile around

A kickball or softball diamond will also live within the track

The plan includes four chess/checkers tables

The thing in the circle that looks like a four-square court? It's a four-square court.

Other things-in-circles include an alphabet grid, a number grid, hopscotch, and, of course...

Skelly! Start perfecting your wax-packed bottlecaps now, kids.
